#127 with Maoz Inon - On "The Future is Peace" / "Die Zukunft ist Frieden"
Maoz Inon is an Israeli peace activist, entrepreneur and co-CEO of InterAct International, a nonprofit dedicated to peacebuilding in the Middle East. After losing both of his parents in the Hamas attack of October 7, he decided to dedicate his work to achieving a lasting and just peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Together with Aziz Abu Sarah, a Palestinian peacebuilder, writer, cultural educator and entrepreneur, Maoz is the author of "The Future Is Peace". Aziz lost his brother after he was arrested and tortured in an Israeli prison. His experiences eventually led him towards peacebuilding and conflict transformation. Today, Maoz and Aziz work together to promote dialogue, reconciliation and a shared future.
In this conversation, Maoz talks about grief, friendship and the partnership that developed between the two of them. He reflects on why education begins at home, why peacebuilding requires listening to competing narratives, and how shared values such as equality, dignity and recognition can create the foundation for difficult conversations. He also discusses the role of Germany, the dangers of political polarization, the responsibility of governments and the agency individuals have to shape the future. The conversation explores how trauma can be transformed into healing, despair into hope and revenge into reconciliation and what each of us can do to help make peace possible.
The German edition, "Die Zukunft ist Frieden. Eine palästinensisch-israelische Reise durch ein versehrtes Land", translated by Ursula Kömen, is now available. It is published in German by Altneuland Press.
